Dr. Robert Long

Before Dr. Robert Long became an implant dentist, he was a patient facing the same fears and challenges he now helps others overcome. Growing up with a severe nine-millimeter underbite, he experienced firsthand the daily struggles many of his full arch patients face. He couldn’t bite into a sandwich without pulling the meat out. Pizza meant scraping cheese off the top because his teeth wouldn’t scissor properly. He avoided photos and reflexively hid his smile, unaware of how deeply his condition affected his confidence and quality of life.

Dr. Long underwent a double jaw surgery that provides him with a lived experience that parallels the full arch procedures he now performs. Both jaws were broken, repositioned, and held together with plates while he spent three months on a soft food diet. The transformation changed everything. Not just his ability to eat, but his confidence, his willingness to smile freely, and how he interacted with the world. That experience gave him something invaluable as an implant dentist: a genuine understanding of the fear, discomfort, and life-changing potential his patients face. He knows what it’s like to be swollen, to adjust to a dramatically different smile, and to discover a confidence you didn’t know you were missing. This personal journey means he approaches every consultation with empathy that can’t be taught in residency programs.

But personal experience alone doesn’t make an exceptional clinician. Dr. Long refused to offer anything less than world-class care, which meant seeking out the absolute best training in the country. After earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2018, he spent a year at Piedmont Health Services providing comprehensive care to underserved communities across the Triangle. It was in the operating room, performing surgical procedures, that he discovered his calling.

That pursuit led him to one of the most prestigious programs in the country: the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. This hospital-based surgical training program has been producing world-class implant dentists since the 1980s. Under the mentorship of internationally recognized pioneers—including Dr. Michael Pruett, Dr. Doug Klepper, and Dr. John Coleman—Dr. Long immersed himself in intensive training that transformed his surgical capabilities. His days alternated between the precision of implant placement and the urgency of emergency department work. He gained extensive experience managing dental trauma and infections at a major hospital, along with third molar extractions under IV sedation.

Dr. Long has completed over 600 hours of implant-specific continuing education and continues to aggressively pursue advanced training from the best minds in dentistry. He has traveled the world to train under the giants of implant dentistry, learning from the surgeons who literally wrote the textbooks on modern implant techniques. This relentless pursuit of excellence has given Dr. Long something rare: both the technical skill and the theoretical depth to handle even the most complex cases. His commitment to staying at the forefront of implant dentistry means continuously mastering emerging technologies and techniques that improve patient outcomes.

After his residency, Dr. Long spent five years in private practice in the Triangle area, performing thousands of implant procedures while methodically refining his surgical technique. His philosophy is simple but uncommon: master the fundamentals before advancing to complexity, and never stop learning from the best. Every case he treats benefits from this foundation of surgical precision combined with years of real-world experience managing complex reconstructions.

Dr. Long’s approach to patient care reflects a philosophy rarely found in modern dentistry: he doesn’t accept every patient who walks through his door. Full arch dentistry is often described as “getting married”—a long-term commitment that requires the right fit between doctor and patient. He’s not Amazon, delivering transactional services to anyone with a credit card. He’s a doctor who believes in building genuine relationships with patients he can serve well over the long term. This means carefully evaluating whether each patient is a good fit for his practice and whether he’s the right clinician for their specific needs. Dr. Long views extremely complex medical cases as opportunities to refer to specialist colleagues rather than situations to take on beyond his scope. This selective approach ensures every patient receives his full attention, expertise, and commitment to managing their care proactively for years to come.

At Revive Dentures & Implants, Dr. Long offers something increasingly rare in modern dentistry: personalized care without corporate pressure. While chain implant centers push high-volume sales tactics and one-size-fits-all solutions, Dr. Long takes time to understand each patient’s unique situation, concerns, and goals. His practice focuses on what he does best: implant dentistry and full arch reconstruction. No assembly-line appointments or pushy sales pitches. Just surgical excellence honed through years of dedicated training and personal understanding of the transformation he helps create.
